Our Fund Raiser on February 27th, was great and we would like to thank the Star Diner in Hillsborough for allowing us to have this fundraiser for the second year now. With this fund raiser we raised $200. Thank you to all who helped make this a success!
February 27th we are having a Fund Raiser at The Star Diner in Hillsborough. The owner has generously agreed to hold a Fund Raiser again this year for us. He will give 15% of all meals purchased on February 27th with a coupon. If anyone is interested in attending this Fund Raiser (it will be Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner so all day - make sure you are very hungry on the 27th) please email Hazel Smith at [email protected] and she will gladly email you a flyer with attached coupon.
January is National Eye Care Month and we had our friends from Seeing Eye come and give another presentation. Same as last year, it was great. Bob Denby brought his puppy in training - RG, Debbie Ritter & her puppy in training Isabella and Eyvonne Quinn & her puppy in training Spencer along with Packer. This presentation, as always, was very informative and interesting. Bob told us about what it takes to foster a puppy for training for being a Seeing Eye dog and threw in some cute anecdotes along the way.
Our December meeting was actually a party! No business was discussed! We had wonderful food, great people, lots of socializing and we even had presents. Thank you to Susan Falotico who hosted this Holiday Party at her house!
Our November meeting went well. Our speaker was Tracey Heisler, Executive Director of CASA for Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties. CASA is our State project for the next two years. The State Project Chairman, Lynn Webb, met with Tracy to become more informed about CASA, so we are heard from the "expert"! On November 3rd at 10:00 am a CASA Ambassador Training program was held at headquarters. At this program we learned even more about CASA of NJ and how to help and spread information in our community. It was wonderful and informative hearing Tracey speak and fill us in about CASA and how the program and people work. and am happy to let you know that a past, long time member of our Club Mary Ann Mignella, who worked as a Court Advocate, for this program joined us and shared some of her experiences with us. It was a great evening!
Our second meeting of the 2018-2019 year was in a new meeting place, thank you to Diane Talarico, at the Kings Crossing Community Center. We were fortunate to have some new members join us Samia Shaaban, and Linda Giordano, and of course Diane. We also welcome Rosemary Seghatoleslami, Maria Espejo (again), and Namrata Pandy-Tiwari who were unable to attend the Oct. meeting.
We had a wonderful presentation from the Liberty Hall Museum which was Stitches in Time: Three Centuries of Hemlines, Necklines, & Everything in Between. Presenter Hannah Gaston was great. She even brought us some visuals for us to see how the fashion changed through the years. She showed us how it went from dresses that were very slimming to huge puffy dresses then back to slimming dresses. It was interesting to find out that women had to wear approximately 5-7 pounds in undergarments which included things like Chamise/Bloomer (which were open in the back for ease of "going") combo, corset, hoop skirt along with other things. She even informed us that in 1863 the Vanderbilts threw a ball with over 12,000 people and cost at the time approx. $50,000 which now would be about $1.2 million. It was all so very interesting and makes me want to visit the Liberty Hall Museum which is at Kean University located at 1003 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083. Stop by and check out the exhibits!
