Our May 8th Installation Dinner meeting went well. We had a good dinner at Cafe Graziella's in Hillsborough and then had our meeting. Our District Vice Chairperson handled our installations. She had a great theme of "Spices". Each installed officer was "labeled" a spice and a description was given of that job and how it associated with the spice. Our spices, I mean officers, were:
All Spice - President - Jane Lavoie
Parsley - 1st Vice President - Filomena Localio
Thyme - 2nd Vice President (Membership) - Kathy Herrington
Sweet Basil - Secretary - Bette Vamos
Ginger - Treasurer - Paulina Dabek
Sage - Federation Secretary - Rosemary Seghatoleslami
We had a guest who has decided to become a member!

Our April 4th, meeting was very interesting. Our speaker was Carol Ann Hontz who is from NJSFWC. She is an advocate for "Days For Girls Foundation" which is a Non-Profit organization that makes and distributes feminine hygiene kits to educate maturing young women in poverty areas around the world which in turn helps to keep girls in school.
Carol spoke of the kits they make and mentioned that the "shields" and "pads" that are supplied are all made by hand, as is the bag the kit comes in. This was a very informative presentation and Carol is an amazing woman who is always on the go working for this foundation.

Well, our Ethnic/St. Patrick's Day dinner on March 14th, was GREAT! We had wonderful food, great socializing and even played a game. Bette Vamos hosted it at her house and we all thank her for making this a great evening.
We had a great turn out (could have been a little better) with Bette Vamos and her guest Eleanor Applegate, Jane Lavoie, Hazel Smith, Beverly Poelstra and her guest Lea Florentine, Rosemary Seghatoleslami, Filomena Localio, Kathy Herrington, and Ella Furlong. Below are pictures of our night.
The game consisted of us all wearing shamrocks on a string around our necks so the shamrock was on our back. We had to socialize and walk around to see what everyone else had on their shamrock. We were given a list of words that were on the shamrocks and we had to figure out what our shamrock said by process of elimination. It was fun.
We discussed needing a new slate of officers and have all but 2nd VP (Membership) accounted for. We have the following people volunteering for positions:
Jane Lavoie - Club President
Filomena Localio - VP
? - 2nd VP (Membership)
Bette Vamos - Secretary
Rosemary Seghatoleslami - Federation Secretary
Paulina Dabek - Treasurer (a mandatory 2 year term)
If you are a member and would like to be 2nd VP please contact Hazel Smith or Jane Lavoie at [email protected] with subject 2nd VP.
If you would like to become a member and enjoy our fun get togethers email [email protected] with subject line Membership.

Our February meeting went well. Our speaker was Sarah Stewart from Home Front. This presentation was very eye opening and gave us information that we, as a community, really needed to hear. Homelessness and poverty exists even in places we would never think. We have it in our own backyard and don't even realize it. So many families are in need of homes, food, clothes and necessities that we all take for granted. We can all make a difference! Take a look at their website and contact them about donations. Their website is: www.homefrontnj.org
Our January 10th meeting brought some friends. Bob Derby from Seeing Eye brought his puppy in training - RG, Debbie Ritter & her puppy in training Isabella and Eyvonne Quinn & her puppy in training Spencer along with Packer. This presentation, as always, was very informative and interesting. Bob told us about what it takes to foster a puppy for training for being a Seeing Eye dog and threw in some cute anecdotes along the way.
Below is a very nice letter and a Christmas Card from Humphrey Chang (Angela Chang's husband).
We didn't have a meeting or program in December because we had our Christmas Party which was wonderful.
We are on our 3rd meeting, November 1st, 2018, with Tracey L. Heisler, Executive Director of CASA for Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties. She gave a wonderful presentation of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). She gave us lots of information as to what CASA is and what they do. They were founded to be the voice of children who are in situations and need someone besides their parents to protect them. You can visit their website at: https://casashaw.org/ if you have any questions or want to know more about them.
Our second meeting of the 2018-2019 year (October 4th, 2018) was in a new meeting place, thank you to Diane Talarico, at the Kings Crossing Community Center. We had a wonderful presentation from the Liberty Hall Museum which was Stitches in Time: Three Centuries of Hemlines, Necklines, & Everything in Between. Presenter Hannah Gaston was great. She even brought us some visuals for us to see how the fashion changed through the years. She showed us how it went from dresses that were very slimming to huge puffy dresses then back to slimming dresses. It was interesting to find out that women had to wear approximately 5-7 pounds in undergarments which included things like Chamise/Bloomer (which were open in the back for ease of "going") combo, corset, hoop skirt along with other things. She even informed us that in 1863 the Vanderbilts threw a ball with over 12,000 people and cost at the time approx. $50,000 which now would be about $1.2 million. It was all so very interesting and makes me want to visit the Liberty Hall Museum which is at Kean University located at 1003 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083. Stop by and check out the exhibits!
Well, we had our first meeting of our club year 2018-2019, which was a Pot Luck Dinner meeting on September 12th, 2018 along with a raffle fundraiser. We had a good turn out even some new people who joined our club. Our fundraiser raffle had donations from Princeton Fitness & Wellness Center (3 month membership worth $225 and a small duffel bag with some goodies in it) which Kathy Herrington won the membership and Filomena Localio won the goodie bag, Alfonso's (Gift Basket worth $150) which Hazel Smith won, T&T Pets (Basket worth $125) which Maria Espejo won, Montgomery True Value ($25 Gift Card) which Suzi Davis won, Star Diner ($20 Gift Card) which Jane Lavoie won, Vera's Pizza ($15 (1 Lg Cheese Pizza) Gift Certificate) Samia Shaaban won, Thomas Sweets (2 $5 Gift Certificates) which Susan Falotico and Cathy Heuschkel won. All of our goodies that were donated brought us $228 as a fundraiser. We had great food and great company!
July 28th we received a letter of thank you for sponsoring a puppy from The Seeing Eye whose name is Stella. We also received a certificate and a picture of Stella. The Seeing Eye is a group that trains puppies to become guide dogs for the visually impaired.
Back on January 11th we had a meeting and invited The Seeing Eye group to come speak at our meeting. We gave them a small donation for coming and they put that donation towards our sponsorship of a puppy.
Thank you The Seeing Eye for your recognition and for all you do to help others.

Well, we can carve another notch in our belts for one more great Montgomery Rodeo. On June 9th and 10th the Daube Farm was the place to be when The Drift Family hosted the 25th Annual Montgomery Rodeo - IT WAS A HIT! They put in a lot of work to make everything run smoothly, and made all they do look easy. They are giving back to the community by donating to the local volunteer fire companies, Montgomery EMS, the Township Police Department, Crawford House, the Drift Scholarship Fund and numerous scholarships through donations to local volunteer organizations like the Montgomery Woman's Club. There were contestants from all over, including some from New Jersey, our very own cowboys and cowgirls. There was a great deal of excitement, good food and lots of fun to be had by all. Members of the Montgomery Woman's Club, were a part of it; helping at the entrance gates, with parking, selling tickets, putting on wristbands distributing programs and greeting the crowds of people.
It is sad and hard to accept that this will be the last Rodeo the Drift Family will host. We want to thank them for the hard work that went into the 25 great Rodeos they have given us.
THANK YOU DRIFT FAMILY FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE AND CONTINUE TO DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY!!!

Marie brought in samples of her products and explained how she made them. All her products are made on site by her from the Lavender she grows on her farm. She explained how useful Lavender oil is and how to use it. At the end of her presentation we were able to purchase a few of her products before our business meeting.

For our part in the state project we collected so many purple hats! Our club ladies worked their fingers hard and we came up with a wonderful amount of hats to send to headquarters.
Well, our meeting on January 11th was a very interesting one. We had guest speakers from Seeing Eye, Inc.The speakers each came with a "guest". Bob and Kate came with Dauntless (a Black Lab), Jen came with Jimmy (a 7 week old German Shepard puppy), and Yvonne came with Woody (a Lab) and Packer (a German Shepard).
They provided great information about what Seeing Eye does and how the dogs help those who are blind. They talked about the process of breeding, raising, and training the dogs. They have a yearly budget of approximately $23 million with no government funding, it is all donations from individual and business donors. It costs about $67,000 to get one dog ready for a client.
An individual's first Seeing Eye dog costs him/her $150 (the cost hasn't changed since 1929). When it is time to retire the first dog each new dog costs $50. Seeing Eye dogs are free for military personnel
Below are some pictures from the meeting.
